A Micro-Business IT Infrastructure Company
FOSSnix IT helps micro-businesses and small teams in the Portland, Oregon area build Linux-based infrastructure for data ownership, backups, secure access, and control.
About the Founder

FOSSnix IT was founded by Kevin Cox, a systems administrator and infrastructure engineer with a background in server platforms, lab environments, and Linux-based systems.
He chose the micro route intentionally: serving solo operators, micro-businesses, and lean teams that need serious infrastructure without enterprise bloat. FOSSnix IT brings disciplined, ownership-first systems to businesses that may be small in scale, but still depend on reliable data, secure access, and technology they can control.
Kevin’s career began supporting enterprise server hardware and testing environments within Intel’s platform labs in Hillsboro, Oregon. Working closely with engineers and technical program teams, he helped provision and maintain systems that mirrored production data center deployments. This work involved bare-metal server provisioning, operating system installation, hardware configuration, and troubleshooting complex infrastructure issues across multi-system environments.
Through these roles, Kevin developed a deep understanding of how reliable infrastructure is actually built — from the physical server and network layer all the way up to the operating systems and services that run on top of it.
After working in enterprise labs and MSP environments, Kevin founded FOSSnix IT to bring disciplined infrastructure practices to organizations that are often underserved by traditional IT models: micro-entrepreneurs, micro-businesses, small offices, and lean teams that need real systems without enterprise bloat.
The micro route was intentional. Kevin believes small-scale businesses are not minor businesses. They may run lean by choice, but they still depend on critical files, secure access, reliable backups, documented systems, and infrastructure they can recover when something fails. FOSSnix IT was built to serve those operators directly — the people who want control, autonomy, and practical technology that supports the way they actually work.
The company focuses on Linux-based, open-source infrastructure that allows businesses to maintain control of their data, avoid vendor lock-in, and operate stable systems without the constant churn of subscription platforms.
Kevin personally designed and deployed the infrastructure that powers FOSSnix IT, including:
- Linux-based virtualization platforms built on Proxmox VE
- Private collaboration and file systems using Nextcloud Hub
- Integrated helpdesk and documentation platforms using FreeScout and BookStack
- Secure networking with WireGuard VPN and segmented VLAN architecture
- Privacy-respecting analytics and infrastructure monitoring
- Automation and AI-assisted support tools tied to internal knowledge bases
This environment reflects the same philosophy Kevin brings to client infrastructure: systems should be well-documented, understandable, secure, and built for long-term reliability.
FOSSnix IT exists to help small operators and growing organizations deploy technology they actually own and control — built on open standards, sized for their reality, and designed to remain maintainable for years to come.
